Adore - Search to belong
Song released 27/06/2009

The film that I have created is based on my president that was an advert for a Samsung Galaxy III. It shows how the application is used for a user to get around the kelburn campus.

DSDN 112 - Finalised music

Finalised music

After experimenting with the different songs I had in the film I came to think that the best one that works was Adore - Search to belong.

Link to track that is used in film.

DSDN 112 - Watermarks

Watermarks

Made some overlay watermarks in Photoshop that briefly explains what the application can do. These will fade in and out of different parts of the film down the bottom. The grey is at a low opacity so it doesn't block out any of the film. I have made about 5 different ones of these.

DSDN 112 - Effects added

Effects added

All of the clips that I had added had effects put on them to help with colour. The effects that were used are colour correcter, colour balance, and colour curves. Some of the segments of clips also have effects animated into them with brightness and contrast for flash ins and fade outs.

DSDN 112 - Intro

Intro

Decided to make an intro in after effects based on the add that I watched for the Samsung Galexy. I slowed down a clip of the user using his phone and blurred it out as the second part of the text came in. To open the clip I will have a white flash in and out when it's brought back into Vegas.

Intro made:

DSDN 112 - Intro / outro

Intro/ outro

After the intro that i made had been put in Vegas 10 I made a simple still screen that ill have come after and partly zoom in on the 'Amazing'.

Outro

Before the credits These two screens will flash in and out from white telling the viewers to download it now. They will flash quite quick not having to look at them very long at all.

DSDN 112 - Clipping

Movie clipping

I Layed out my clips in Sony Vegas 10 and began to choose the best to fit together with smooth transitions. The audio of the actual clips will be removed and the audio that I found will be inserted and clips edited to fit nicely to the film.

DSDN 112 - Possible music

Possible music

I searched though listening to different songs that aren't copy right. I found that the bottom song would work the best with what I'm doing. I don't want much talking or any talking at all in my video. The music will work with having text presented at the bottom of the video like on the video that I researched into.

Advertising video that I researched liking the use of music and text witting with showing off the product used.

DSDN 112 - Inspiration and ideas

Inspiration

Introducing Samsung GALAXY S III - A Day in the Life

Was browsing Youtube looking at how commercials have been filmed and the use of speech, text and visuals of the object. Also noticed the transitions of how it's being used and who's using it. The colours are bright and vibrant being edited to make it look really clean and crisp. Visual text is mostly used in this which I like as it draws the viewers eyes to watch the screen where music also plays a big part in the commercial.

DSDN 112 - Storyboard

With the first frame it is the person wandering around looking lost where he finally pulls out his phone in the second frame taking a photo of his location. It shows a zoomed in shot of the application then him placing it back in his pocket walking off in the distance. The next frame is of the character walking through the hall ways with the camera capturing parts of his legs walking and blurred shots of the body moving past. Shows him briefly cheek his phone again before proceeding to where he finds his location opening the door and disappearing.

Throughout the video their will be the parts where the user speaks and also music that will be played through the characters journey.

DSDN 112 - Critique

Last session we paired up with partners and went through each others applications that we designed picking out what worked well and what didn't. We went through on how different things could be improved and in different areas how it would effect the user with using the application.

DSDN 112 - 200 word discription

200 word description of application

The application that I have designed is a simple mapping device that allows the user to log in using their myVictoria username and password. With this log in feature it allows users to share locations and other things via social networks such as, Facebook, Tumblr, Blogger, and Rss. What the application ‘Picture map’ involves is a feature where they are able to take a photo of their location that they are standing at. From that location the application uses satellite to log the users location then directing them to a screen where there are input fields of what their destination is such as Kirk, 301, 3rd floor. After the user has logged the information of their destination a simple but easy to read map pops up with a red arrow showing the way. A button on the map also allows the viewer to see their desired destination.  Another feature to ‘Picture map’ that goes with the camera feature is that it stores the photos so the once logged in the user can scroll through previously visited locations and captured locations with the co-ordinates. The feature would be useful when the user is nearby to a past location.  The last feature that the application has is settings that have help functions, about, and privacy settings.

DSDN 112 - Five key app images

Five key app images

The five key slides of my application are the login via 'myvictoria', overall menu, captured locations that logs the users co-ordinates, the camera that takes the photo of the location and logs the co-ordinates, and the map of the building showing the route to the users destination. (there are two slides for the map)

DSDN 112 - Code problems

Code problems

Came across a few problems when i was doing the actionscript code. The main reason was not naming the symbols correctly. Some of the big problems i also had was getting up to five buttons to work correctly on the same keyframe. It took a long time of trial and error before i grasped it and carried on to use it right the way through my app.

DSDN 112 - Map look

Look of the application map

I designed the map like this as i wanted the viewer to be able to look at it and be able to clearly see where they are and where they need to do. I found i made this possible by having the bold red arrows on the screen with also a red glow along the walls of the building by the arrow. The map is stretched across two pages with having a button that you can view a picture of the location that the viewer is trying to get to.

DSDN 112 - App pages

App pages

I designed some extra pages into my application showing what kind of settings would be involved in it and also the feature that stores the pictures that have been taken so you can come back to them for quick co-ordinates if you are near by to the location of the picture. If the app was to go into more detail then you would be able to click onto the picture with it coming up with more information that has been logged down such as what day the location had been pictured ect.

DSDN 112 - Menu design

Menu design

After looking at a range of different applications menus in general i decided to scrap the look of the other one coming up with this simple but effective looking one. The buttons and type are easy and clear to read and navigate to. the buttons are big enough such as the social media ones down the bottom and also the settings button under 'Pictured locations'.

DSDN 112 - Login

Login design

I decided to design my app so in flash when clicked on the number pad it would start typing out each individual letter for the user name and the password. Would then proceed to login via the button on screen.

DSDN 112 - Typography

Typography experiment

Went through a range of different types to see what would be the most effective. I found that for an app on a phone that a type that is easy to read and not italic would best fit. Arial looked nice but found that 'Roboto' had more styles to it having it thin, light, medium, bold, and regular. these can be used for more and less important parts of the app.

DSDN 112 - Starting interface look

Starting interface design

Began to design the interface menu just mucking around with the look of it and really looking into the blending options of each layers. I looked at using pattern as part of the background trying to make it look sleek. Instead I experimented more looking at gradients finding that a simple dark grey to lighter grey looked better with a bottom highlight. It isn't as busy making it easier for the viewer to look at while on the move.
